Create a Bird Haven with Riesterer & Schnell
A dazzling red cardinal in search of food dodges its way through sticky, white snowflakes cascading from the sky. It’s January in Wisconsin, and the cold has forced many birds to retreat south for the winter. Meanwhile, the cardinal and others must face the frigid season, taking advantage of the few resources available to them.
Understanding what these birds need during Wisconsin’s chilling winters will be the topic of discussion at Riesterer & Schnell’s Wild Bird Clinic from 10-11:30 a.m. Nov. 19 in Fond du Lac. Jeff Perkins of Prince Corporation, a distributor of wild bird food and supplies, will speak on the best practices for creating the ideal bird haven.
“Attracting birds is more than just putting out bird seed,” Perkins said. “Birds have certain preferences in the winter time, and their bodies tell them that they need specific things. You will get a lot more birds if you create the right habitat.”
The event will include door prizes, one-day only discounts, informational handouts and assistance getting the best bird seed for your needs.
“If you want to attract certain types of birds, this clinic is a really good way to get that information,” said Amanda Paron, Riesterer & Schnell Lifestyle Feed Coordinator. “If you have a problem keeping birds around, this clinic can help with that as well.”
