Under Powered Machine

2/5

I've had my 4044R about a year now and mostly like the machine except the power. It is really under powered. I've had the dealer look at the machine and put it on the dyno. It checks out based on the specifications. Unfortunately, the machine will not pull itself up a small hill in high range without loosing significant speed. Even in the "B" range the machine losses speed up a small hill. The dealer has done a good job of trying to make it right, They contacted Deere see if there is anything that could be done. Deere told the dealer that the machine is intentionally under powered to save cost and make it price competitive with the competition. I've requested to have the"district manager" visit me to drive the tractor but so far I've heard nothing from them. Since this machine was not in stock, I had to order it without test driving it. If I had known it's performance did not meet my expectations, I would have spent the extra money to get the more powerful engine. We've always had Deere equipment and this is the first one that did not meet my expectations. I do not recommend this machine. Spend the extra money and get one with more power.

Pros

  • great cab with nice features

Cons

  • under powered

Great Tractor

5/5

I bought a 2014 4044r 4 years ago. I have put 942 hours on it and have had zero problems. I use it to move gravel, grade roads, move large rocks, move campers and boats, brush hog fields, and everything else that requires heavy lifting. I am so pleased with this tractor that I am ordering a new 2019 this fall. I love the hitch assist. My forth John Deere tractor but first with a cab. Will never go without a cab again. Love being able to work in any weather conditions.

I'm happy with my 4044R

5/5

I'm on third year of ownership and this 4044R has done everything I have needed for. Haven't had any issues running a mower deck or a tiller for the garden. Picks up round bales with the 3 pt and blades a 600' driveway when it snows. Only thing I would like is more horsepower because my land is hilly.

Great Features

5/5

I have owned my John Deere 4044r series tractor for two years now and have about 85 hours on it. I use it with a finish mower, box blade, post hole digger, forks and a bucket. I picked the John Deere for two main reasons:1) Because of the Hitch assist, which makes attaching implements very easy. 2) The ease at which you can remove the front loader. You can do it entirely from the seat/platform and do not have to get off to set a stand. I "accidently" ended up with the quick connect/disconnect hydraulic connector. I am not sure of the exact name of this, but it has a lever that disconnects all of the hoses, and you can do it from the platform. I highly recommend this feature, as you do not have to get off the tractor to connect and disconnect the front loader and its hoses. The dealer shipped a front end loader from another location and it came with this connector. So, they gave it to me at no additional cost. :) I love the cruise control also and use it all the time. You can just set your speed and mow away! I have had no issues with my tractor. The tractor is light and when doing loader work, it needs to have some weight in the back. Overall, great tractor with great features. The r series tractors are worth the extra cost, if you can afford them.

2017 John Deere 4044R

4/5

I've owned my new 4044R with cab and loader since June of this year and so far it has served me well with no issues. There are features I wished it would have come standard like rear work lights and better seat suspension. If I had a do over I would have gone with the higher horsepower 4R or the 5R series tractor. It lacks a little horsepower for bigger jobs. Before I bought this tractor I had compared it to other brands and found the loader to have better and heavier gauged steel then some competitors. Overall I'm happy with the tractor, my only complaint is what used to come standard with tractors in the past, now you must buy those options and now days it all around that almighty dollar and how they can increase profits. I'm all for profits don't get me wrong, however rear lighting isn't too much to ask for on a R series tractor.

Horrible

1/5

This is my Sixth John Deer Tractor and it is terrible. I have owned it for eighteen months and it has been in shop or broken down more than I have used. I have lost tens of thousands of dollars by having to rent equipment while mine is down. In shop again now, been there three weeks for same issues as last time and can not tell me when I will get it back. Everything has been wrong with this tractor. John Deer should return money to people who brought this tractor as it is a true lemon. After six tractors I dont know I will ever buy another John deer

Easy to operate-and very good on fuel

4/5

I have had my 4044r with a cab for a year. I think its a great tractor for hobby farm and small acerage use. I run a 7 foot frontier grooming mower with it...and mow 5 acres once a week and its great..... I also use it for snow blowing in the winter with a 74 inch frontier blower..and it handles that excellent. I also bought a H180 loader for it...and I have had no problem with that as well. If I had a fair amount of acerage and did a lot of hard consistent work such as moving round bales with it or hard tillage work.. or digging out and hauling large cement chunks with the loader...I would not use it for that...because it would be light for that use. But what it is intended for such as small acerage use in regards to running 7 to 8 foot equipment. Well it handles that just fine... I think the cruise and power motion controls are just wonderful...the visibility is superb ...the cab is comfortable and very quiet....I am 5'9" at 180 lbs.. and I don't feel cramped at all... In the winter time...the ventilation is excellent. I have blown snow with it in 20 below zero....and the windows stay clear with no fogging and I am very warm and comfortable inside... My only concern is that down the road all the electronics will be a problem...but everything has that these days... so hopefully not. I think the engine has very good power.. It runs my 74inch blower with no problem even blowing 3 foot drifts. I would buy it again

Pros

  • a hardy little tractor

Cons

  • i wish i would have ordered a rear wiper that woul
