Great features

5/5

What can you say, nothing runs like a deere..fuel injection and power steering.locking differential..I had no trouble plowing deep snow..didn't need tire chains...it mows great except when the grass is a little too wet.(I dont like mowing wet grass but sometimes you have no choice) it will clog and bog down...otherwise it is a great tractor. ..

The 590 is an excellent garden tractor but for the price it should be!

4/5

This is overall an excellent machine. the 54 inch deck works fine and I can mow our entire yard on one tank of fuel. That's quite a change from my old Wheel Horse 520HC.There is no clumping of grass and the engine has plenty of power. The power steering is wonderful but the deck hydraulics don't move it very far. Everything is good, so far. What I don't like is the necessity of adding other equipment to the rear to put any additional equipment on it.For the $8k I paid I expected more than the necessity to add silly stuff like that.

Pros

  • power
  • runs like a champ

Love this mower........so does wife!

5/5

My 2002 John Deere LX277 was getting a bit long in the tooth, although it had never given me one single problem, so I decided to buy this X590. I am getting older and needed something a little more comfortable and easier to drive and this really fits the bill. If anyone had told me to get power steering on a lawn tractor before, I would have laughed in their face. Not now, this thing, with its power steering, is a dream to steer, making it so easy to get around obstacles in the yard. A larger, more comfortable seat, and larger tires make it a joy to ride, and with Fuel Injection, no more choking the engine to start, just turn the key and it starts, every time. I really like the hydraulic deck control also, although I still find myself reaching for the big lever to raise the deck with. I started out at looking at some of the lesser models that the John Deere dealer had, but after much research decided to spend the extra money and get this mower, and I am so glad that I did. I figure the extra money won't be much of a concern after a year or two, but you will have a great mower for many years to come.

Pros

  • power steering
  • hydraulic deck lift
  • stouter transaxle
  • larger more comfortable seat
  • easy start fuel injection
  • hdap tires on back

Cons

  • plastic hood

Climbs hills with wonderfully

5/5

I bought this mower to replace my John Deere LX277. I needed a lawn tractor that would climb the steep hills at my house, and X590 does the trick. With the more aggressive tread design on the rear tires I seldom have to engage the differential lock. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase, and I love having power steering on a lawn tractor. I am glad I went with the X590 due to the power steering, fuel injection, high back seat with springs, and the larger more aggressive rear tires. I also bought a two bucket holder for the back that I love. I use to pull a cart behind my old John Deere, but for me this is so much easier. The only suggestion I would make to John Deere is to charge a little more and make the hood out of metal.

Pros

  • climbs great
  • steers easy
  • looks great

Powerful and Operator Friendly

5/5

My X590 came with the new 54' Accel-Deep mower deck and the 7.5-Bushel High Performance Power-Flow Material Collection System. The 26 hp Kawasaki FS730V-EFI Engine with the constant speed governor is excellent! The mower does not even bog down when collecting or mowing thick grass! My John Deere X304 is great but the X590 raises the bar! The mower deck is easy to clean off after mowing and greasing the spindles is simple with the fold up deck covers. I also use this machine for residential/semi-commercial lawn mowing and I was able to mow 7 mid-size to large city residential properties before I had to refuel the mower. I attribute the longer run time to the Electronic Fuel Injection instead of a carburetor. In addition, power steering is now necessary on all future tractors I purchase! My only complaints are about the deck leveling system and the plastic deck guard. When I started using the X590, the mower deck would not stay level. I would adjust it and re-level, then after 2 lawns, it was off level again. The adjusters, in particular the right side one, are at odd angles that the deck-leveling tool goes into. This causes the deck-leveling tool to slip and strip the 6 sided hex-head bit. You need to adjust the deck anti-scalp wheels to compensate and make the necessary changes with the added weight of the Power-Flow blower attached. As for the plastic guard that is installed on the deck with use of the Power-Flow blower, it is not tall enough and after a handful of uses, the belt that runs the blower was wearing away the plastic. Additionally, the plastic side discharge chute is not yet designed to accommodate the new style blower and mine had to be cut to allow the belt to run without interference on the deck. Overall, the John Deere X590 is a "beast" of a lawn/garden tractor and I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Pros

  • very fuel efficient with the efi module
  • excellent engine power
  • accel-deep deck leaves "golf course" appearance
  • power steering is effortless

Cons

  • deck-leveling adjusters are difficult to turn
  • pulley cover interferes w/power flow blower belt
  • discharge chute needs to be modified w/power-flow

X590 Better then Most

5/5

After 3 years of frustration with a competitors lawn tractor I had enough and bought an new X590. After taking delivery at the dealer I loaded the tractor on my customized car trailer and I bought home my new X590 and went to work verifying that everything was setup by the dealer. I then went to mowing and my god this thing flys on my property. My front yard has many trees and it maneuvered around the trees and cut far closer to the trees then my old mower. Now I was ready to use the mower on my 2 acres of wide open side and back yard. I was actually surprised when I put my foot down on the forward pedal this machine virtually took off and it was mowing my grass really fast and it cut the yard at maximum speed better then the old lawn tractor at half speed. When I finished it only took a little under 2 hours to do 2 and half acres, the pervious best on the old lawn tractor was 3 hours as it could not handle the grass at higher speeds. The following week I attached my lawn and leaf vacuum and spent right at 2 and hours and the yard was completely cleaned up of the excess grass and yard looks like golf course according to my younger brother. The deck cleans up fast from the clippings on top just used my air compressor and I love the flip up spindle covers. I was always fighting the other style to point that a lot of times I would almost remove them permanently as they trapped the clippings against the deck which if left there can lead to rust issues. The other thing with the new deck being as flat as it is the clipping that land on top mostly just slide off. A quick blast of compress air and they are gone. I use my tractor jack and jack stands and using a plastic scrapper I remove any buildup on the underside of the deck. I never use washout port as I do not like getting water on the bearings, spindles or blades. I have been a John Deere customer for years and I stay that way.

Pros

  • the new style deck

Cons

  • washout port

Very capable machine

5/5

I have used the machine to turn a lawn from dirt into beautiful bermuda grass. The X590 has no problem pulling ground engagement implements such as a single molboard plow, disk, dethatcher, among many others. I have put more time on my X590 taking care of the ground and garden than I have mowing. I suspect that others looking for a machine like this will be doing the same; you will not be disappointed. The only thing I would like to see is actual lights on the rear of the tractor instead of just reflectors. Other than that minor issue, I would highly recommend the John Deere X590 for anyone needing to do a lot of ground work and yard maintenance.

Far more machine than I expected

5/5

I bought the tractor for my acre yard two years ago and maintain it according to the manual. The only complaint I have is the seat, after four or five hours it gets a little hard. The fuel injection is incredible. ano matter how deep or tough the grass is, the fuel injection keeps the rpms up like there is no load. The hydrostatic drive is solid! Unlike lesser machines, there is no surging or loping. The hydraulic deck lift control takes a little getting used to but it is quick and very easy to activate. If there are any suggestions I could make, it would be to change the deck lift to make it a little easier to actuate. Rear work lights would be a huge plus too. However, everything else is excellent!

  • fuel injection

Lawnmower does what i want it to and more

5/5

Purchased the X590 mower after owning a John Deere 180 for 13 years. It does all I want. I wanted a larger mower to be able to use a snow plow on the front. I am very pleased I removed snow on a 150' driveway [8-10" deep] and about 30 X150 paved area. Also help out 4 elderly neighbors. I also mow about 3/4 acre weekly and 1.5 acres every 2 weeks. A very good machine and a very comfortable seat

  • comfort
  • power

So far, VERY good!

5/5

I bought a 2016 X590 with 54 in. deck in late July. Prior to this I had an X360 with the same size of deck. As I write this, my tractor has 21 hours on it. The X590 allows me to cut my 2 acres in significantly less time than with my previous X360. It is one amazing machine. I really like the new mower deck. It does an even better job than the one on my X360 and that one was superb! The new deck makes cleanout a bit easier, especially around the pulleys on the top of the deck. Along with the tractor and mower deck I also purchased a new snow blower and a tow behind sprayer. I'm anxious to see how the snow blower handles my driveway here in the Chicago area in another few months! Finally, my dealer was extremely helpful -- always available to answer questions, but never "pushy." One last tip, purchase a steering wheel knob with your tractor. The steering knob combined with the feather touch power steering makes steering very, very easy! I'm extremely pleased with the X590!

Pros

  • power steering & power lift
  • engine provides plenty of power
  • great dash instrumentation
  • cost/performance ratio is excellent
