LITTLE TRACTOR BIG POWER!

5/5

First off I like Tractors. I have owned New Holland 2, Kioti 1, Kubota 2 and 3 John Deere. My last tractor was a 5085M John Deere it was a great tractor but just to big for what I need. I have some cattle so i feed some hay and do some brush hogging. I also till a large garden. This has been the best tractor so far i have ever owned by far. AC is cold on a 100 degree day pulling a 7ft Brush Hog in deep brush. I do some driving on the road and it will run 20mph and pulling a hill won't kill it like the 5085. It will turn on a dime. I can unload round bales way faster then any of the tractors I have owned. The cruise control is great.

Pros

  • lots of power
  • great ac
  • no def
  • good mpg

Cons

  • little more leg room would be nice
  • wheel hits loader hose turning hard right

You pay for what you get.

5/5

I went through the same challenges that most everyone goes through- looking at the competitors, weighting the pros and cons. I ended up purchasing the John Deere and I'm really glad that I did. It's a quality machine that truly is something that I'm proud of. Even though you pay a premium price, it's a premium product that I would definitely recommend.

OUTSTANDING !!!

5/5

This is my 4th John Deere Tractor . I have owned 316, 955,3027 models This 4066 R is in a word...AWESOME. I ordered this one with snowblower, rototiller, wood chipper , snow pusher and of course the bucket. It is beyond my expectations. I would recommend it to anyone interested in a solid, powerful, enjoyable and comfortable tractor. I have the cab and the heat and air are wonderful....making me a bit lazy ! The cab itself is a blessing here in Upstate NY where the snow piles up and the wind howls. On to growing barley with this tractor this summer !!

  • great all around

Poor excuse for a top of the line machine

2/5

Just bought this machine site unseen. Big mistake. I assumed that being an "R" I was buying high quality. I traded off a 3046r with 240 hours that was down for 8 months with 3 pt. hitch problems so I should have known better I guess. 4066r 3 pt. controls are just a short stubby piece of flat bar sticking up a few inches above the panel with a little tiny knob on top. The hydraulic levers are so close together you can't put your hand in between to use them properly. There is no gas shock or anything similar to assist in keeping the right hand door open (identical set up on the E series). Floor mats do not fit properly. In cab sirius sat. radio antenae is close to useless. H180 loader binds if fully dumped at low levels and then you attempt to raise the loader arms.

Pros

  • can't find any yet

Cons

  • very cheaply made and highly overpriced. no build

Completely disappointed

1/5

I am very disappointed in my 4066R, when I first bought the tractor I had called for service and the tractor was a lemon and John Deere replaced the tractor only to get the next tractor and at 75 hours the tractor had been worked on 4 times. Another issue is even when the tractor runs it has no curling power or lift power. The hydraulics are very poor and its a shame to spend that much money and cannot get a quality machine. I will take a major hit but I am now selling this tractor and will never own another John Deere compact tractor.

Has some nice features but lots of downfalls

2/5

It's not near the quality of my current and previous Deere tractors. I have had warranty work on it three or four times already. It's noisy and low on power. I would have preferred a syncro transmission and shuttle shift but it wasn't available. The cab is nice to keep you out of the weather but in our Texas sun the a/c can't keep up. It's also noisy inside the cab. For a small tractor it has some nice features

Pros

  • 3 point downforce kit is great.
  • e pto
  • third scv kit

Cons

  • hot in the cab. even with the windows tinted
  • noisy: if it wasn't for being able to operate at l
  • low on power: it doesn't have near the power that

Spent over 1000 hrs in a 4066R seat this season.

5/5

I have owned a lot of of compact tractors. This 4066R is my favorite. It is a solid quality built tractor. I use this tractor on a little 4 row corn planter. I planted around 350 acres of corn this spring with it in about 35 fields in locations from Boston Mass. to Seattle Wa. I then switch the planter out for a roto-tiller and spent the rest of the summer tilling paths in corn fields all over the United States. During the winter I use it to clear snow. I am in all kinds of conditions the mud, the dust, the rock, the heat and the cold this tractor preforms well in all conditions. I depend upon this tractor to keep my commitments to my customers and get the job done. When It does break as all equipment does John Deere has an awesome dealer support network that gets me back in the field where ever I am. I believe the John Deere 4066R to be the best option for my compact tractor needs.

Pros

  • quality to run the long hours.
  • comfortable cab
  • great power in a small frame

Cons

  • don't like inconvenient hood and side panels
  • wish the 3pt hitch could lift more.

Solid Tractor

4/5

My previous tractor was a New Holland TC40D open station. Purchased the 4066 R for the increase in horsepower and cab. Pleased with both aspects. The engine is responsive and has enough torque behind it to power through tasks. I greatly appreciate the "auto engine speed" feature. I have not touched the throttle control since engaging this feature. The cab is comfortable and provides the protection I was looking for (would be nice if it were a bit bigger although not sure how that could be accomplished on this size tractor). Fit and finish is good, not great. I spent some time adjusting a few items and am happy with it now, a little disappointed that it wasn't better from the factory. I also spent the extra dollars and selected the self leveling loader, glad I did, really nice feature and well executed. Other items that I am appreciate, front fender kit and rear fender extensions. Front fenders are a must if you want to protect your cab from flying objects coming from the front wheels. Also opted for the "skid steer" style quick attach on the loader, opens up lots of possibilities for attachments. Overall pleased with the purchase.

Pros

  • horsepower to size is good
  • auto engine rpm feature

Meets all expectations and better than prior 4 series

5/5

We bought a 2016 open station 4066R for use on our farm/forest property in northern New England. It has 200 hours so far this year on a wide range of tasks -- baling 1000+ square bales (JD baler), brush-hogging rough pastures (Landpride 2560), finish mowing (Landpride 2584), brush-hogging around 10 miles of woods trails (some at 15%+ grades), bucking up log-length firewood (Frostbite grapple), hauling firewood with heavy 6x12 dump trailer, transplanting trees w/matched JD backhoe, and clearing snow with our old 3-way JD hydraulic rear blade. We've previously owned several JDs including a 4520, a 5100M and two 5420s. Comparing to the other JDs, the 4066R is our pick of the litter. It's right-sized for our work, it has plenty of power, and so far it's been 100% reliable. We've encountered none of the problems mentioned in other reviews. There are some real improvements over our 4520 (which we traded in toward the 4066R). The cruise control is easier to operate and that's important for us. We have to travel over roads to reach parts of the property. The 4066R has more power for our applications. The 4520 would run hot when we brush-hogged heavy growth in hot weather; the 4066R stays cooler. The matched backhoe is easy to attach and remove. We'll plan to update this review after we have 500 hours on the tractor.

Pros

  • improvements over prior 4 series
  • reliability (so far)
